A Day in Riyadh Kicks Off Next Monday at the U.N. Headquarters
NEW YORK, Sept. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ArRiyadh Development Authority is organizing A Day in Riyadh, a four day-event at the U.N. Headquarters in New York, which will take place from September 27-30, 2016 in conjunction with the opening of the 71st U.N. General Assembly.
Presenting ArRiyadh's Developmental Experience
The event, which is held in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saudi Permenant Mission to the United Nations, Ministry of Economy and Planning, and King Abdulaziz National Dialogue Center, aims to showcase developments in Riyadh City, and how it reflects Riyadh's leading role as the capital of Saudi Arabia, the center of the nation's major activities, and a home for international, Islamic and regional institutions, organizations and diplomatic missions. It also, highlights the characteristics and advantages of Riyadh in various vital sectors, and presents the experience of developing the city through strategic projects, most importantly King Abdulaziz project for public transport in Riyadh.
Current and Future Developmental Challenges
The strategic plan of Riyadh City has overcome many challenges while addressing developmental issues, the event puts those challenges up for discussion with specialists from the United Nations, and experts from the 193 delegations who are participating in the 71st U.N. General Assembly, through discussion sessions in forms of workshops, seminars, and panels, focusing on developmental areas relevant to U.N. programs, such as planning and urban management, transportation, and the development of social, cultural, environmental and tourism sectors in the city.
Strengthening Cooperation with Experts from UN Development Program
The event seeks to strengthen the cooperation and partnership between the High Commission for the Development of Riyadh and specialized experts within the United Nations, its agencies and its Development Program. Cooperation currently exists in many areas including: registering Tariff District in the historical site of Dari'iyah in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and cooperation between the Urban Observatory in Riyadh and UN-Habitat, U.N. Development Program to provide consultation services for the Urban Observatory in conducting studies, attracting expertise, developing local technical human resources, and improving databases.
Event highlights the close cooperation between the Kingdom and the United Nations, represented by all its agencies, and shows the great humanitarian role of the Kingdom in supporting victims of natural disasters, displaced persons, and refugees in affected countries around the world.
4 workshops by 23 experts
Event includes four workshops held over a period of four days, with 23 experts and specialists from inside and outside the Kingdom taking on the following issues: planning and management of urban transportation and the development of environmental, social and cultural sectors.
It also includes, three talking sessions, organized in cooperation with the King Abdul Aziz Center for National Dialogue: Peace for Cultural Understanding, volunteering, and open dialogue.
Interactive screen displaying 14 personal experiences from Riyadh
There will also be an exhibition in the corridor leading to the U.N. building, where a high-definition interactive screen plays clips from the story of Riyadh: the past and the future. When there is motion, screen prompts users to choose between 14 characters from various spectrums from Riyadh's community, to address users - directly – and talk to them about their experience and achievements in Riyadh. Other screen shows a short informational film about Riyadh's most important characteristics at the same time
Interactive 3D about 3 periods in Riyadh
Event features a 3D interactive map of the City of Riyadh and augmented reality applications, showing information about the city and its major sector during 3 periods: the past, the present, and the future.
Exhibition of ArRiyadh, today and tomorrow
Exhibition uses latest technology to present historical and modern images of the city of Riyadh, where visitors can see two images from two periods of the same site.
A Day in Riyadh launched a website: www.adayinriyadh.com with a welcome letter from HRH Prince Faisal bin Bander bin Abdulaziz, Mayor of Riyadh, President of ArRiyadh Development Authority, event information and registration, agenda and participants, and images and films about Riyadh.
