Outdoor Channel Corps Launches Second Annual "Conservation Tour of Duty"
AMERICA'S LEADER IN OUTDOOR TV Partners with Cable Affiliates & Organizations to Host Hands-On Volunteer Efforts Across the U.S. to Improve Public Lands & Outdoor Spaces
TEMECULA, Calif., Sept. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Outdoor Channel, America's Leader in Outdoor TV, today announced the launch of the second annual "Conservation Tour of Duty" as part of its Outdoor Channel Corps initiative. The Company's Outdoor Channel Corps philanthropic effort mobilizes volunteers to restore and improve public lands and spaces to ensure that the outdoor lifestyle thrives in local communities across the U.S.
This year, Outdoor Channel Corps will hold local, hands-on volunteer projects, which include repairing stream banks and parks, clearing trails, cleaning riverbeds and planting seedlings, in addition to other efforts, such as food drives and conservation education programs. Along with cable affiliate groups, like Comcast and Time Warner Cable, and organizations, such as the Boy Scouts of America and United Way, the Corps is spearheading the charge in these restoration and improvement projects starting September 11th until November 18th.
Created in May 2010, Outdoor Channel Corps is leveraging the Outdoor Channel brand to rally passionate outdoor enthusiasts to volunteer in their communities. Encouraging them to "Serve and Conserve," the program is organized around specific "Tours of Duty," focusing on the principles of conservation, outreach, responsibility and education. The "Conservation Tour of Duty" aims to conserve public lands and outdoor spaces to ensure that future generations of hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts have access to traditional recreational pursuits.
"Outdoor Channel is leading the charge on conservation . As we kick off our second annual 'Conservation Tour of Duty,' we expect renewed commitment from our viewers and other like-minded volunteers to maintain the vitality of the great outdoors," said Jeff Schmal, Vice President of Marketing and Research, Outdoor Channel. "As leaders in the outdoor entertainment industry, it is our duty to initiate volunteer efforts that will make a lasting impression.
