Over 1,500 people march for epilepsy in the Northwest

Walks benefit people living with seizures

SEATTLE, June 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Over 1,500 people came together to raise $170,000 for the annual Northwest Run/Walk for Epilepsy.  The events were held in Spokane on June 9 and on June 16 in Seattle, Portland, Tacoma, Tri-Cities, Hermiston and Anchorage.  All events benefit uncompensated programs of the Epilepsy Foundation Northwest. The event will be held in Juneau on July 14.

"Families living with epilepsy and those who have lost loved ones to epilepsy came together as one community over the past two weekends to support the Epilepsy Foundation Northwest," said Brent Herrmann, CEO.  "This effort will help bring epilepsy awareness to the community and programs to people served by our organization."

Proceeds from the multi-city run/walks support uncompensated programs and services including Camp Discovery for children with epilepsy and their siblings, year-round educational and support groups, self-advocacy and mentoring programs, emergency medication assistance, and seizure response training programs for school nurses and personnel, first responders and employers.

Sponsors included MultiCare Health System, NWCN (Northwest Cable News), Providence Health and Services, Providence Medical Group-Spokane, Potlatch Corporation, Lundbeck, Cyberonics and various Run/Walk teams from corporations and epilepsy health centers around the northwest.
