PA Lottery Cash 5 Record Jackpot of $1.9 Million Shared by Two Tickets
Winning Tickets Sold in Lackawanna, Wayne Counties
MIDDLETOWN, Pa., Feb. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two Pennsylvania Lottery Cash 5 tickets will share a game-record $1.9 million jackpot from the Wednesday, Feb. 6 drawing.
The two tickets, worth $950,000 each, were sold at the following locations:
- Turkey Hill, 21 Eighth Ave., Carbondale, Lackawanna County; and
- Lake Region IGA, 52 Welwood Ave., Hawley, Wayne County.
Each ticket correctly matched all five balls, 19-22-28-39-42, to split a jackpot of $1.9 million and win individual prizes of $950,000, less 25 percent federal withholding.
Each retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling a winning ticket.
Lottery officials cannot confirm the identities of the winners until the prizes are claimed and the tickets are validated. Cash 5 winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.
The Lottery encourages each holder of a winning ticket to sign the back of the ticket, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at any of Lottery's seven area offices or at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County.
Claims may be filed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at area offices and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at headquarters.
In fiscal year 2011-12, the Pennsylvania Lottery awarded a total of more than $55.8 million in prizes to winners in Lackawanna and Wayne counties. The Lottery also contributed more than $32.8 million to programs that benefited older residents of those counties.
The April 15, 2008, Cash 5 drawing previously held the record for the game's largest total payout; the jackpot worth $1,867,253 was shared between two winning tickets. That jackpot was advertised at $1.8 million.
A Cash 5 ticket worth nearly $1.7 million from the April 19, 2011, drawing holds the record as the largest single, jackpot-winning ticket since the game's 1992 inception.
How to play Cash 5: To play Cash 5, players pay $1 and select five numbers from 1 to 43. Players may select their own numbers using a Cash 5 playslip, or they may opt for computer-selected quick picks. Players must match all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot. Odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1-in-962,598; the overall odds of winning any prize are about 1-in-10.5.
