Pa. Secretary of Commonwealth Reminds Voters of Election Day Rules
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele today reminded voters that polls will be open in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., for the general election.
"I encourage all registered voters to cast ballots in this important election," said Aichele, whose department oversees elections. "Offices on the ballot include President of the United States, U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, attorney general, auditor general, treasurer, as well as 25 seats in the state Senate, and all 203 seats in the state House of Representatives."
All voters will be asked, but not required, to show a photo ID, under the state's new voter ID law. Last month, the Commonwealth Court ruled the transition should continue for this law, so voters will be asked to show photo ID as they were in the April primary election.
Although full implementation of the voter ID law is on hold for this election, the previous identification requirement for first time voters, and voters casting a ballot for the first time at a polling place, remains in effect. This ID can, but does not have to, be a photo ID. Acceptable non-photo IDs include utility bills, tax bills, voter registration cards, and other official correspondence containing the voter's name and address.
First time voters and anyone else with questions can get more information at www.votespa.com, and clicking on the dropdown box in the "I AM" section of the website.
