Jacksonville Nonprofit Organization Helps At-Risk Girls and Young Women Turn Their Lives Around

NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Mutual of America announced today that PACE Center for Girls Expansion was named an Honorable Mention recipient of the 2011 Community Partnership Award competition.

With the number of girls entering the juvenile justice system on the rise, PACE Center for Girls Expansion focuses on community-based prevention, diversion and early intervention to help at-risk girls and young women, ages 12-18, in Florida find a path back to hope. The program is part of the PACE Center for Girls, which is based in Jacksonville and partners with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

"Many of the girls who come to PACE are victims of physical or sexual abuse, and are behind academically or have dropped out of school," says president and CEO Mary Marx. "PACE helps them turn their lives around by providing gender-responsive education, counseling and career planning."

The only statewide effort of its kind in the United States, PACE has served more than 21,000 girls in 17 locations across Florida.
