PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Veterans have had a long association with MacArthur Park restaurant, Palo Alto, enjoying the food and hospitality amidst the building's long history of service to the US Armed Forces and their families. The Craftsman style building was designed by architect Julia Morgan of Hearst Castle fame in 1918, originally as a World War I YWCA Hostess House for visiting families of servicemen at Camp Fremont in Menlo Park. It was then dismantled and relocated to Palo Alto after the war.
A landmark restaurant and popular location for Veterans meetings, many customers are enjoying the warm ambience of the restaurant.
"It's great that I can return again to MacArthur Park with my friends and family for a great BBQ dinner and enjoy half off our check," says Chuck Wallin, a former WWII serviceman. "It's also heartwarming to know at this time of year that our service to this country continues to be valued."
Chuck Wallin served in WWII as a US Navy Aviation Radio Airman and then in the Torpedo Squad Anti Sub Patrol, searching out German subs in the Caribbean. He's a member of American Legion of Palo Alto post 375.
MacArthur Park and partnering Faz Restaurants are offering a 50% off promotion until November 22 to veterans and their friends/families (parties of up to six). In order to be eligible for the discounts, veterans must make reservations and show their military credentials. Veterans have responded positively to the initiative, touched by the gratitude and recognition displayed by the MacArthur Park team in the lead up to Veterans Day.
