VALDOSTA, Ga., Nov. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Parkwood Developmental Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID), announces a new 20-bed extension. Now a 130-bed center, Parkwood is one of the only facilities of its kind in Georgia.

Parkwood is home to both children and adults with a wide range of specialized needs. Its campus is comprised of two buildings. The main building focuses on clients who function within the Severe to Profound range of Intellectual Disability. These clients follow a schedule that is tailored to accommodate their needs, as well as teach them the skills necessary for them to function as independently as possible.

In the annex building, the focus is on clients who function within the Moderate range of Intellectual Disability.  There, the facility puts an emphasis on intensive daily living skills and vocational training. Parkwood also coordinates with businesses in the community to provide job placement and counseling as appropriate.

Sue Fleming, mother of a Parkwood client, says, "My son has been a client there for more than 20 years. Parkwood literally saved our lives. It was an answer to our prayers. They take great care of our son – we always know he is in good hands. Parkwood is home to Josh."

Services at Parkwood Developmental Center do not require a Medicaid Waiver. For more information, call 229-242-6268 to talk to someone today.
