Shaffer is currently the Chief Flight Nurse and medical instructor at Medway Air Ambulance, an emergency medical service company which operates out of Lawrenceville, Georgia. The company serves as an emergency medical service provider that caters to patients that need emergency air transport. They have been in business for over 25 years and, according to the site, have carried out over 13,000 emergency medical flights with no complaints or accusations of malpractice from former patients. Her role as a medical instructor with this company involves her teaching subjects like; basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric life support.
Shaffer has over 30 years of experience with nursing, and her expertise includes overseeing medical supplies, staffing, training and treating patients, as well as other aspects of the emergency medical field. Other than Medway Air Ambulance, where she has been employed for 16 years, Shaffer is also affiliated with St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta, where she retired in 2013.
She is also affiliated with other prestigious medical organizations, including the International Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, Georgia Nurses Association and the Emergency Nurses Association, where she maintains professional memberships.
Shaffer obtained her nursing degree in 1968 from the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia and some years later continued on to receive her Bachelors of Science in Health Management from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY. In addition, she obtained her Master of Science degree in Health Administration from the College of California in 1990.
