Mr. Nonna currently co-chairs the Patton Boggs Insurance and Reinsurance Dispute Resolution practice group. As managing partner, Mr. Nonna will hold primary management oversight of the firm's New York office and provide a clear point of reference for clients to access firm services there.
Often recognized for work in the insurance and reinsurance arenas, Mr. Nonna joined Patton Boggs in April 2012 from the New York office of Dewey & LeBoeuf, accompanied by three attorneys from his practice group. The team brought distinct yet complementary strengths to the firm, particularly with matters involving insurance dispute resolution, international arbitration and cross-border concerns.
The addition of Mr. Nonna and his colleagues was one in a series of strategic moves undertaken by Patton Boggs to increase the firm's bench strength, legal service offerings, and overall presence in the New York market. Today's announcement signals the firm's ongoing commitment to New York and the greater Northeast region.
During the past twelve months, Patton Boggs has recruited and added lateral attorneys with strengths corresponding to the firm's broad-based corporate and transactional practice, including such key areas as corporate finance, private equity and investment, and real estate acquisition.
"John Nonna is an ideal choice to manage the growth and success of our New York office," said Edward J. Newberry, managing partner of Patton Boggs. "In less than a year, he has acquired an understanding of Patton Boggs that complements his strong existing knowledge of the New York market for legal services. We are extremely pleased that he has accepted this appointment, and we will continue to support him and the entire New York-based team as he undertakes it."
"I am pleased and honored to accept this appointment," said Mr. Nonna. "I look forward to helping the firm navigate both the opportunities and challenges in New York in the best interests of our clients and our firm."
"Patton Boggs occupies a unique position among law firms," Mr. Nonna added. "Our sophisticated understanding of the complex intersection of business, law and government clearly differentiates us from competitors. But the firm offers exceptional capabilities in other areas — particularly business and litigation — and I hope to build client awareness of those areas."
Business development for existing New York practices is Mr. Nonna's top priority. Practices targeted for growth include corporate finance, commercial and securities litigation, insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution, real estate investment and development, white collar and government investigations. Continued, aggressive recruiting of top legal talent and initiatives to support and expand relationships with the firm's institutional clients are also key objectives.
In addition to matters involving insurance and reinsurance, Mr. Nonna has tried a broad range of complex cases involving accounting malpractice, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, breaches of warranties and representations, employment discrimination, distributorship agreements, stock and asset purchase agreements, and M&A disputes.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial lawyers, and has been ranked Band 1, nationally and in New York, in insurance dispute resolution by Chambers Guide to America's Leading Lawyers for Business. Mr. Nonna also appears in the American Lawyer Guide, Best Lawyers in America, Commercial Litigation and Insurance Dispute Resolution, and was named one of the top 100 lawyers in the New York metropolitan area by New York Superlawyers. He is a member of the board of directors and a regional vice chair of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and chairs the New York State Bar Association Committee on Federal Legislative Priorities. He has also served in elected office in local government.
