FLORHAM PARK, N.J., July 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- DataMotion Health™, a provider of clinical data delivery services and solutions, today announced its DataMotion Direct Secure Messaging capability will be incorporated in the Continua Design Guidelines, published annually by the Personal Connected Health Alliance (PCHA), to enable the exchange of data between Continua-certified personal connected health devices and solutions in accordance with the Office of the National Coordinators for Health Information Technology's (ONC's) Direct Project initiative. The Direct Project (Direct) outlines protocols for transmitting encrypted protected health information (PHI) directly to known, trusted recipients over the Internet. The Continua Design Guidelines are recognized as the international standard for user-friendly, end-to-end interoperability of personally connected health devices and systems.
DataMotion's Direct Secure Messaging, part of the DataMotion Health Platform, will offer healthcare device developers an Internet-based alternative to point-to-point interfaces that are widely deployed but increasingly expensive and non-scalable in the networked Internet of Things (IoT) environment. The DataMotion Health Platform offers a comprehensive set of services for connecting and delivering PHI securely and efficiently.
Secure data exchange via DataMotion Direct Secure Messaging, over Continua certified devices and solutions, leverages readily available Internet protocols already fueling device connectivity in the IoT ecosystem. Data will be viewable by way of the interoperable and cloud-based DataMotion Health Platform via the Services to IHE Gateway outlined in the Continua Design Guidelines.
Direct was introduced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and HHS's ONC has incorporated it into its requirements for electronic health record (EHR) interoperability. Direct also satisfies security directives issued by HHS's Office of Civil Rights (OCR) under HIPAA.
"As healthcare reform initiatives seek to cut costs and put patients at the center of their care, monitoring devices for personal fitness, independent living and chronic disease management are gaining traction and requirements for cost effective data sharing are growing in parallel," said Bob Janacek, CTO and co-founder of DataMotion. "Direct leverages the scale and economies of the Internet and represents a real game changer for device interoperability, as well as secure data exchange across the care continuum. We're very pleased to partner with PCHA as they adopt this alternative data delivery approach."
DataMotion Health is an EHNAC accredited and ONC certified health information service provider (HISP) of Direct.
