ATLANTA, Sept. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- At the annual meeting of the Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, Peach State Health Plan announced an educational initiative, with support from both agencies, that will seek to reduce the number of unplanned and at-risk teen pregnancies in Georgia.
Peach State Health Plan, which created a long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) teaching model to train medical residency students on the proper use of LARC devices, donated five LARC teaching models to the organization. The models, which have an approximate value of $6,000, will be used during a series of seminars at perinatal centers and major delivery hospitals across Georgia.
Peach State Health Plan has partnered with the Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecological Society on all phases of this initiative, including the development of educational materials, a previous donation of a $25,000 grant and the statewide educational seminar initiative.
"Peach State Health Plan is proud to partner with the Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecological Society on this important educational initiative. Partnerships such as this underscore our commitment to improving the health and well-being of women throughout Georgia," said J. Dean Greeson, M.D., senior vice president and chief medical officer, Peach State Health Plan.
"The Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecological Society appreciates the ongoing support of Peach State Health Plan in our efforts to reduce teen pregnancies in Georgia. LARC's clinical effectiveness is key, and the statewide physician training will help us achieve this important goal," said Cathy Bonk, M.D., president, Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.
