Pegasus Transportation Prepares for Next Big Surge of Tourists from China In Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A strong penchant for forecasting new travel trends, mixed with a flair for designing over-the-top tour packages for international travelers, has prompted Pegasus Transportation to invest significantly in becoming "China-Ready" to attract an influx of Chinese travelers expected to visit Orlando.

China's burgeoning middle class is projected to surpass 550 million by 2022 and international travel is becoming more appealing to these newly affluent consumers. According to The China National Tourism Administration, over 131 million Chinese tourists traveled abroad in 2017 and spent over $261.1 billion USD while vacationing; thus creating an economic oasis for travel companies prepared to cater to their needs.

Pegasus has taken their desire to appease the Chinese traveler to an entirely new level, revamping everything from their brochures to their bus drivers. Traditional style Chinese writing has been added to their logo. Product brochures featuring Chinese emblems and Mandarin translations are being marketed on popular Chinese social media platforms, like WeChat and Webo.

Pegasus has hired Mandarin-speaking sales representatives to field incoming calls from Asia. Pegasus' staff, including bus drivers, must become certified in the course "Welcoming the Chinese Guest," at FIU's Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management.

"We are ready for Chinese visitors to vacation in Orlando," says Claudia Menezes, Vice President of Pegasus Transportation, one of Orlando's largest transportation companies.  "We've been preparing to cater to them long before our marketing campaign. We attended trade shows and even toured the country to learn their culture, habits and to better understand the market," she said.

The company's efforts have resulted in a 1000 new Chinese travelers in 2017.  However, looming trade war talks between the U.S. and China and the lack of direct flights from China to Orlando, threaten their efforts to generate more travelers.

"Orlando is the theme park capital of the world. We should have a larger share of the Chinese market with all that we have to offer, especially with new attractions like Volcano Bay, The Fast & Furious at Universal Resort and Disney's Pandora's," said Menezes whose company is also a top reseller of theme park tickets for Universal and Disney.  "We are working with the local authorities, and the airport to make it happen," she said.

Pegasus' promotions are paying off. They have partnered with one of China's fastest growing global edtech companies in the world, VIPKID, whose mission is to "inspire and empower every child for the future."  They are introducing a new tour, combining language and travel into one package, called "Edutainment Vacations."  This week, Pegasus and VIPKID will welcome 100 Chinese families to Orlando as part of the inaugural tour.
