PEMCO Insurance Partners with Portland Organizations to Support Schoolhouse Supplies

SEATTLE, Oct. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwest-based PEMCO Insurance recently partnered with Portland's Oldies 106.7 radio to host the PEMCO Insurance Fall Back-to-School BBQ, benefitting education nonprofit Schoolhouse Supplies in its mission to fill local classrooms with vital learning tools and school supplies.  

The Portland community came out to show its support, Oldies 106.7's Scott Tom served as master of ceremonies, and Famous Dave's cooked up home-style barbeque, all to ensure that children arrive at school equipped for class.

"We partnered with some great Portland organizations to support and promote education, in keeping with our shared commitment to the community and our own heritage as a company founded by a teacher," said PEMCO spokesperson Jon Osterberg .

Those who attended the Oct. 1 event at Portland's historic Oaks Park donated $5 per person to the cause, with PEMCO matching each contribution.

PEMCO began serving Oregon residents with auto and home insurance in July 2011. PEMCO is the Northwest's largest locally based personal-lines insurance company, serving more than 500,000 customers in Washington and Oregon.       

Since 1999, Schoolhouse Supplies has enriched student learning by distributing $13.4 million worth of supplies to kids who need them. Its 2011 goal is to add $1.8 million in school supplies, plus another $2 million for the 2012-2013 school year, effectively meeting the needs of every student who requires help.
