Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Applauds Bi-Partisan Support of the State's Congressional Delegation in Protecting Prevailing Wages on Federally Funded Projects

HARRISBURG, Pa., June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale and Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder today applauded the bi-partisan support of the majority of the members of the United States House of Representatives, including the members of Pennsylvania's Congressional delegation, for supporting the Davis-Bacon Act – fair wages and benefits for working people – on federally funded military construction projects.

"We are pleased that all our Democratic and six (6) of our Republican members of Pennsylvania's House Delegation recognize and support local community wage and benefit standards on federally funded construction projects. It's critical that both federally funded and state funded projects do not become a vehicle to undermine the wages and living standards of working families who live in these communities," President Bloomingdale said.

"This is a significant victory and should serve as a reminder to our state and local elected officials on both sides of the aisle of keeping Pennsylvania on the high economic road by rewarding the high skills and productivity of its workers in building and construction as well as all sectors of our economy," Secretary-Treasurer Snyder added.

"We applaud those members of the United States House of Representatives for once again in a bi-partisan way resoundingly rejecting very bad policies that would further lower the wages and living standards of hard working families. Let this serve as a reminder to the members of the State Legislature that the priorities should be on creating good jobs that ensure decent wages and living standards for workers," Bloomingdale concluded.
