Pennsylvania Department of State Unveils Election Returns Website Redesign
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Acting Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro A. Cortés today announced the launch of a redesigned election returns website that will allow users to view results on mobile devices, customize searches, receive timely updates, and modify graphics views as preferred.
"The changes we are unveiling today are part of a larger effort to improve the way the department delivers information to the voting public, candidates, and the press," Cortés said.
The site was activated in time for Tuesday's municipal primary election. County election officials will begin feeding results to the site shortly after the polls close at 8 p.m.
Besides being mobile friendly, the new site matches the current look and feel of the department's website.
The portal will provide visitors a location-based service through the "My County" link. Also, the site provides users with direct links to election results websites for each county.
As results are reported, users can choose to have them displayed in a bar graph or pie chart.
"The modernized website delivers election night return data in a more mobile friendly environment, is more readable, and the user can actually customize how the data is presented," said Deputy Secretary for Elections and Administration Marian K. Schneider.
The Department has taken steps to ensure the new site is user-friendly and accessible to all visitors by using software that evaluates websites for vision-impaired users.
The site can be accessed on the Department of State's home page at www.dos.pa.gov. Results will be archived and can be found by selecting "Voting & Elections," then "Other Services/Events" and "Election Results." Currently, primary and general election results are available on the website back to the 2000 Primary Election.
