HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett and First Lady Susan Corbett invite the public to join them in the annual Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, on the front steps of the Main Capitol Building in Harrisburg.
The theme of this year's ceremony, "Home for the Holidays," welcomes the men and women of Pennsylvania's armed forces who will be able to share the holidays with their families.
"The holidays are always a special time, highlighted by the chance to be with your families and loved ones – something the men and women of our armed forces are not always able to do," Corbett said.
"We want to celebrate those who are able to come home and recognize the continuous sacrifices of our military personnel."
The Corbetts will be joined by Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley, Pennsylvania Adjutant General Major General Wesley E. Craig and some of the men and women who have recently returned home from their tours of duty in time for the holidays.
The governor will deliver a special holiday message and lead the countdown for the lighting of the Capitol Christmas Tree.
Students from Wyoming Valley West School District in Luzerne County are scheduled to provide musical selections and lead the singing of Christmas carols.
This event is open to the public and free parking will be available throughout the Capitol Complex for those wishing to attend.
