Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Is Accepting Applications for 2015-2017 Alcohol Education Grants
HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) is currently accepting applications from community organizations, law enforcement agencies, colleges and universities and schools for two-year grants aimed at preventing underage and dangerous drinking.
"The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board provides approximately $2 million in grant funding for programs that deter underage and irresponsible drinking," said Joseph E. Brion, PLCB chairman. "We strongly encourage community groups to work together to develop a comprehensive strategy to address underage and problem drinking before applying for grant funding. The funds can then be used to support the goals outlined in the strategy. We have found the communities that are most successful in enacting permanent, positive change are those that implement a coordinated approach."
The grant cycle is two years, with a maximum award of $20,000 per year (a total of $40,000 per organization). Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis and are subject to the availability of funds, the amount of which will be determined by the Bureau of Alcohol Education.
This year, applications are in the form of a fillable spreadsheet, which makes the application process easier and decreases the chances of mathematical errors.
Letters of support from partnering organizations or agencies are required with the grant application. There is no limit to the number of organizations from a single county or municipality that may apply, but each must be a separate entity.
Grants are intended to fund programs focused on proven strategies to discourage and reduce underage and dangerous drinking. Some of the initiatives funded in previous years include increased police patrols, social norms campaigns, Parents Who Host (Lose the Most) campaigns, college alcohol assessment surveys, online alcohol education programs, peer trainers and more.
For a grant application, visit www.lcb.state.pa.us and click on Alcohol Education. The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2015.
