Penton Technology Announces 9th Annual MSPmentor 501 List Ranking the Top Managed Service Providers in Information Technology
NEW YORK, May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Penton's MSPmentor announced the 2016 edition of the MSP 501, the information technology industry's largest and most comprehensive ranking of leading managed service provider (MSP) organizations.
First unveiled in 2007, the 2016 edition includes a number of improvements and refinements to ensure that the annual ranking is the most complete, precise and forward-looking study available on the managed service provider market. This year's list and study examines the business models, technologies, vertical markets and customer segments that matter most to MSP companies.
The 2016 MSP 501 leverages a new and improved methodology that is being made public for the first time. The new ranking algorithm distinguishes the MSP 501 as the definitive benchmark by which MSP organizations can be compared, year after year. In addition to a ranking on the MSP 501 list, every company that participated in the study has been assigned a score reflecting its intrinsic value. The measure, known as the Clarity Total Service Provider (TSP) score, evaluates an MSP's mix of revenue from various services activities, including consulting, cloud, reselling and managed services.

To achieve greater accuracy and thoroughness, Penton Technology teamed with Clarity Channel Advisors to help produce the 2016 MSP 501 ranking and study, which is the channel's first ranking to include revenue verification. "When we look at the numbers, we see several trends emerge," said Clarity founder and CEO Jim Lippie, who was a former MSP 501 business leader before establishing his data information services company. "There's definitely a rush to quality and scale, which has resulted in the strong getting stronger. We also see a de-emphasis on hardware sales and an embrace of all things cloud."
The 2016 MSP 501 companies reported combined revenue (based on 2015 sales) of $9.82 billion.
In addition to the complete MSP 501 list, MSPmentor has also created additional rankings for key markets. They include:

- The top ranked MSPs in Asia, Australia and New Zealand
