HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Feed The Children, PepsiCo, Community Renewal Team and Price Rite are bringing two semi tractor-trailers full of food and essentials to Hartford to help 800 families in need. The food and essentials will be distributed to families at the Comcast Theater in Hartford.
Nearly one in seven children living in Hartford (12.8 percent) is considered impoverished. In fact, the number of children living in poverty in Connecticut (103,495) could fill the XL Center more than six times.
PepsiCo is a longtime partner with Feed The Children and is sponsoring the distribution. This is the second year PepsiCo and Feed The Children have partnered to support the Hartford community. PepsiCo and Price Rite are providing products to families at the event, including Frito-Lay snacks, Lipton tea, Quaker Oats and Quaker granola bars, packaged foods and fresh produce.
Feed The Children partner agency Community Renewal Team has pre-identified families receiving the boxes. In addition to the products provided by PepsiCo and Price Rite, each family will receive a 25-pound box of food and a box of personal care items. The boxes are designed to help a family of four for up to one week.
The distribution is part of Feed The Children's Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, which has helped more than 395,000 families across the country since it began in 2009.
"Our Americans Feeding Americans project continues to help those adversely affected by the economy," said Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children. "With the help of PepsiCo, Community Renewal Team and Price Rite, this distribution will provide relief for them at a crucial time."
