DALLAS, Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Perennials and Sutherland, LLC, leaders in the international design industry and the preeminent providers of luxury furniture, performance textiles and accessories, today announced the debut of their Great Camp collection, a new line of Adirondack chairs from Sutherland Furniture®. Designed by Joe Doyle for John Hutton™, the chairs are a sophisticated, luxurious take on the classic Adirondack design of the Northeast, putting them in a class all their own. With grand, regal features and a commodious yet sleek design, this collection truly makes a bold statement in terms of presence and scale.
Inspired by the Great Camps of the Adirondack Mountains, Sutherland's Great Camp collection embodies the 19th Century notion of "roughing it" in the wilderness while surrounded by luxury. The collection combines the rustic, Americana feel of the original Adirondack chair with the high-end, modern design style and quality of Sutherland craftsmanship.
"These are not your typical Adirondack chairs," says David Sutherland, CEO of Perennials and Sutherland, LLC. "There are hundreds of variations of this outdoor staple, but the chairs that we've created for our Great Camp collection truly set themselves above the rest in terms of design refinement. They are slick and distinguished with a simple execution, and their volume and scale gives them a grand presence as well as an inviting, all-enveloping sense of comfort. They perfectly emulate the high-end feel, classic architecture and mountain charm of the Great Camps."
The new collection highlights the remarkable outdoor performance characteristics Sutherland Furniture® is known for. The chairs merge the ideas of style and comfort together, featuring wide, straight arms, an ample and inviting depth and a back-to-seat pitch angle ideal for lounging and relaxing in the great outdoors. The new collection is offered in both teak wood and powder-coated aluminum frames in 20 different colors designed to add a specific distinction to any outdoor design aesthetic or atmosphere.
"The Great Camp Chair can go where the original wouldn't dare," says Joe Doyle, design director at John Hutton International. "We wanted this chair to be both laid back and stately, and a permanent fixture in the landscape. We put curves only where anatomy demanded, all else is clean and straight. We also made the pitch more erect and borrowed the tall narrow back from an old favorite, Thomas Lee's Westport Chair. The result, we think, is an Adirondack Chair after finishing school."
The Great Camp collection is available to interior designers and architects through fine showrooms worldwide. To view the full collection, visit www.sutherlandfurniture.com. High-res images are available upon request.
About Joe Doyle
In 1972, when fledgling furniture designer John Hutton sketched a record cabinet for his brother-in-law Joe Doyle's high school shop project, neither of them knew that this was the first of hundreds of future collaborations. As Hutton's reputation grew, Doyle was simultaneously honing his skills in woodworking and manufacturing. Over the next decade, the pair began joining forces on various side projects, which increased in frequency when Doyle joined the woodworking shop that was manufacturing production and bespoke items designed by Hutton for Donghia Furniture.
In 1985, Hutton was named Design Director for Donghia, and soon after added Doyle to his design team. Over the course of their tenure at Donghia Furniture, Hutton and Doyle created the template for a transitional aesthetic that incorporated a seamless blend of function, proportion and timelessness. In 1998, Hutton and Doyle left Donghia to found John Hutton International, a product design company dually based in the United States and France. In 2001, Hutton and Doyle became the first American designers to be given a solo show at the esteemed VIA galleries in Paris.
John Hutton passed away in 2006 but under the direction of Doyle and Hutton's son, Douglas, the company continues the trajectory that defines the transition from the historic to the innovative.
