Petco Expands Retail Presence with 13 New Stores in September

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In keeping with its fast-paced 2016 growth plan, which includes 34 new Petco stores and one new Unleashed by Petco year-to-date, Petco, a leading specialty retailer of premium pet food, supplies and services, will open 13 new Petco stores across the country and relocate one store in Paso Robles, California, in September. In addition, the company will also transition 31 existing Unleashed by Petco stores to smaller format Petco stores this month.

One store will be relocated and celebrate a grand re-opening on September 9-11:

People and pets are invited to attend the grand opening festivities taking place at each store, and a special Wellness Center celebration the following weekend, where pet parents will receive a voucher for a free vaccination package for their dog or cat. Grand opening activities include ribbon cutting ceremonies, as well as in-store adoption events and special offers for Pals Rewards customers.

This latest slate of new store openings will also be complemented by the rebranding of 31 select Unleashed by Petco stores, located primarily in Colorado, Georgia and Texas, to smaller format Petco stores. The stores will transition to best meet consumer demands as a result of recent tests that indicate the Unleashed by Petco brand is more successful in certain locations. In addition, and also based on consumer feedback and demand, UnleashedbyPetco.com will transition to become an informational site for consumers, with all online product sales moving to Petco.com.

The former Unleashed by Petco locations will continue to operate as smaller format Petco stores and will include most of the same brands, products, and amenities – such as self-serve dog wash and dog training services – that are available under the Unleashed by Petco banner.

The Unleashed by Petco store concept – paired with both traditional and smaller footprint Petco stores – remains a vital part of Petco's growth plan and continuing commitment to being the trusted source for high quality, premium pet products and services. Following the transition, the company will operate more than 85 Unleashed by Petco locations nationwide.
