Peter Sherman joins Avison Young in Los Angeles
Highly regarded industry leader becomes Principal, will lead firm's Southern California multi-family institutional investment sales practice; two others join
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 8, 2016 /CNW/ - Christopher Cooper, Avison Young Principal and Managing Director of the company's Southern California region, announced today that highly regarded multi-family institutional investment sales specialist Peter Sherman has joined the firm in West Los Angeles.
Effective immediately, Sherman becomes a Principal of Avison Young and will lead the firm's Southern California multi-family institutional investment sales practice. He will focus on expanding the practice in Los Angeles and throughout Southern California, and collaborate with other multi-family investment sales specialists across the company.
Also joining Avison Young along with Sherman are Sam Chow as a Vice-President in the West Los Angeles office and Roger Dela Rosa as a Marketing Director, focusing on the multi-family institutional investment practice. All three were most recently with CBRE in Los Angeles and will continue to work as a team.

Sherman brings 11 years of commercial real estate industry experience as a principal, broker and asset manager to Avison Young. During his career, he has successfully marketed and sold, financed and equitized multi-family and mixed-use assets valued at more than $5 billion. He was most recently a Senior Vice-President with CBRE in Los Angeles, where he was responsible for multi-family institutional investment sales.
Sherman's notable recent transactions include: the $99-million sale of The Lexington, a Hollywood land site entitled for 695 units, in which Sherman represented the buyer AvalonBay Communities; the $69.7-million sale of The Vineyards at Paseo Del Sol, a class A, 288-unit pre-stabilized apartment property in Temecula, to The Praedium Group, in which Sherman represented the seller The Dinerstein Companies; and the $45.1-million sale of Pico Lanai, a 174-unit value-add apartment property in Santa Monica, to Raintree Partners, in which Sherman represented the seller Carmel Partners.
Prior to joining CBRE, Sherman was a founding partner of Los Angeles-based Multi-Housing Capital Advisors (MHCA) where he represented CIM Group and led the successful $213-million equity placement and acquisition of a 1,220-unit portfolio of Gables Residential properties in Texas. Before co-founding MHCA, Sherman was a Senior Vice-President with Transwestern in Los Angeles.
In addition to working in the commercial real estate industry, Sherman spent 11 years as a senior executive in the technology, media and entertainment sectors with Tonos Entertainment, Supertracks, NBC Strategic Ventures and PriceWaterhouse. With these firms, he drove revenue growth while developing successful strategies, negotiating partnerships and supervising product development and marketing efforts.
Sherman holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of Business, a Master's degree in international affairs from John Hopkins University, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Virginia.
