Philips, Medtronic, Nihon Kohden Drive Japanese Wireless Telemetry and Australian Telehealth Patient Monitoring Adoption to Reduce Healthcare Facility Costs
Australian Home Telehealth Monitoring Market to More than Triple in Value by 2017
VANCOUVER, May 3 /PRNewswire/ - According to a new report by iData Research (www.idataresearch.net), the leading global authority in medical device market research, the Asia-Pacific patient monitoring market, including Japan, South Korea and Australia, is expected to exceed $598 million by 2017. The Australian home telehealth market experienced the greatest growth in revenues of over 90% in 2010, followed by the Japanese wireless ambulatory telemetry market. Growth is being fueled by efforts of healthcare facilities to decrease costs and compensate for staff shortages by using technology to increase patient mobility and discharge patients sooner.
"As healthcare providers in Australia begin to recognize the benefits of remote monitoring, the telehealth market will see strong growth through 2017," says Dr. Kamran Zamanian, CEO of iData. "In contrast, the South Korean and Japanese telehealth markets were still developing in 2010 and 2011, due to constrained healthcare budgets and a lack of awareness. However, the necessary infrastructure needed for telehealth is now in place in these countries facilitating the uptake of remote monitoring in the home environment."
The report states that wireless telemetry monitoring in the Asia-Pacific region was primarily utilized in cardiac care-related areas in 2010. However, expansion of telemetry to other hospital departments that previously did not have monitoring, many of which are low-acuity settings, is expected to drive growth in this market by 2017.
"As the wireless telemetry market grows in Asia, new competitors are expected to enter, increasing competition and driving down the average selling price," says Dr. Zamanian. "Currently, Nihon Kohden, GE Healthcare and Philips Healthcare lead this market in Japan, South Korea and Australia respectively."
