Phillips Charitable Helps Nurse and Single Mother Complete Degree
Single mother working 80 hours a week receives grant to complete bachelor's degree in nursing and arrange day care
NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Katherine Barnes, single mother of two in Maryland, graduated with her Associates degree in 2009. But the cost of completing her degree combined with an unexpected increase in the costs of daycare led to a financial hardship.
Ms. Barnes is a nurse and has 3 classes to go to complete her bachelor's degree in nursing (with excellent grades).
She is employed at Doctor's Community Hospital, working 80 hours a pay period to support her family. Ms. Barnes has a well thought out plan for recovery and just needed a grant to bridge her over until her degree was complete.
Phillips Charitable Organizations provided a bootstrap grant to complete her degree and arrange day care. PCO wishes Ms. Barnes well in her nursing career as she pursues her dream of caring for others.
