PlaceUs Comes to Android; Simplifies Day-to-Day Communication between Trusted Loved Ones
Alohar Mobile's Context-Aware App Automates the Sharing of Location and Other Real-Time Information between Spouses, Significant Others, Best Friends, and Families
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Alohar Mobile, developer of free apps that bring together trusted loved ones with context-awareness and location-based technology, today announced it has brought its popular PlaceUs for iPhone app to Android.
PlaceUs makes it easier for couples, families, close friends and other close, trusted loved ones to share important real-time information about where they are, what they're doing, who they're with, where they're going, and so much more.
"Now that I use PlaceUs, I don't need constant communication of who's going where, or why either of us can't talk right now," said PlaceUs user Jenna Vela who uses the app to connect with her husband. "PlaceUs has had a very positive effect on our communication. It's nice knowing what my husband is up to without always having to check in. It's more connection, less effort."
While other location-based apps are limited to location data, PlaceUs uses context awareness, which taps into all of the mobile phone's sensors, combining it with other user and external data to paint a more complete picture of a user's lifestyle and assist with the larger group's overall social experience. PlaceUs also learns from the mobile activities and interactions that take place between close contacts, using this information to anticipate and automate the communication around many common tasks, such as texting a friend one's estimated arrival time to a restaurant or asking a spouse if they need anything at the store. By allowing trusted contacts to stay in close touch with each other without laborious texts and phone calls, PlaceUs removes the growing burden of staying in touch with the people who matter most.
"We check in with our closest contacts surprisingly often throughout the day—whether it's texting a spouse to make sure the kids were picked up from school or letting friends know when we're running late," said Sam Liang, CEO and founder of Alohar Mobile. "It's necessary but also burdensome. With PlaceUs, all that information is shared automatically, allowing people to be closer without all the extra effort."
PlaceUs Key Product Features
- Automatically detects all the places a user visits, including start time, end time and place name with no manual check-ins required;
- Sends automatic notifications when a connection arrives or departs a place;
- On the Go feature provides automatic up-to-the minute location updates with moving trails when connections are in transit;
- Provides a way for connections to 'Love' when a user arrives or departs a place;
- Convenient privacy control lets users easily choose and control at a granular level how, when, and with whom they share their personal data;
- With its patented adaptive technologies, PlaceUs is always on while using low battery power.
Alohar's novel technology combines location, motion, Wi-Fi, cellular network, timing data, user preferences and histories, and more to understand everything about the user's current and historical context to provide automatic ambient intelligence. In the future, PlaceUs will use this technology to connect with wearables to add new sensory elements, such as blood pressure and heart rate, detect when a user won't be able to make a school pick-up in time and notify an inner circle connection who's closer to the destination, and even detect and report car accidents in real time.
