Plastic Surgeons Talk Tattoo Removal and Brazilian Butt lift in New Jersey
EDISON, N.J., Jan. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the art of tattooing is commonplace. In fact, one out of five adults in U.S. has a tattoo, according to a Harris Interactive study.
However, there are people who have decided they no longer want their tattoo. In an instance such as this the person can attempt to disguise it with a cover-up tattoo, hide it under their clothing or choose to have it removed. Tattoo removal is made possible by noninvasive lasers that target and remove the pigmentation and the ink within a few sessions.
"Factors that can influence the number of treatments required include the size, shape and age of the tattoo," said Dr. Andrew Miller, a NJ plastic surgery expert. "An experienced tattoo removal specialist is an important component to effective tattoo removal, as they understand how the skin reacts to the process and can tailor the treatment."
A laser's short bursts of high-intensity light target the tattoo's pigment. Just as the colors in a tattoo vary, there are varying lasers that address each color. The Nd:YAG ruby and alexandrite and Nd: YAG laser use different components to remove tattoo colors.
Removing the tattoo:
- Placing the hand piece against the surface of the skin activates the laser light. The depth reached is superficial, so only a minor abrasion will remain, which will heal in a few weeks.
- Small to medium size tattoos require only a few five- to 10-minute sessions, while larger tattoos need more time and sessions.
- After each session, an ice pack is used to soothe the treatment site. Antibiotic ointment should be applied and a bandage should be worn, as well.
"It's a simple and effective process," said Miller, who offers liposuction and Brazilian butt lift New Jersey. "The pain can be compared to the snapping of a rubber band, however local or topical anesthetics can be used."
