MONTREAL, Jan. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- After hosting some of the most famous names in hockey history for the NHL Faceoff event in 2011, Playground Poker Club has announced another major hockey-themed event. The Playground Hat Trick Series tournaments feature several NHL stars of today and benefit youth hockey in Montreal. The event gets underway on January 26th.
On the heels of the NHL lockout finally ending, the energy in Montreal is electric and some of the biggest names in the home of hockey's most successful team have joined forces with North America's largest standalone poker room to help raise money for youth hockey in the Montreal area.
The Hat Trick Series is comprised of three events, taking place on separate dates and spanning across several weeks with the first event kicking off on January 26th and the second and third parts happening on February 10th and March 17th. Hosting Event 1 of this three-part series are Montreal Canadiens players Josh Gorges, Carey Price, Max Pacioretty, Travis Moen and former coach and player Guy Carbonneau.
The event, which begins at 12 noon Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, January 26th, is designed to help raise money for charity. However, in true Playground Poker fashion, the structure is also appealing for poker players of all levels. A portion of each of the three prize pools will be held back to help support local youth hockey teams in Montreal and Kahnawake.
In addition to being able to play cards with the biggest names in Montreal hockey, poker and hockey fans alike will have an opportunity to get pictures and autographs from their favorite players and take part in a live auction, with money-can't-buy merchandise and other collectibles.
Josh Gorges, Travis Moen and Max Pacioretty recently joined the Playground Players Club and have taken the opportunity during the lockout to keep their minds sharp and have a little fun while playing Texas Hold'em at Playground.
"The dealers and staff here are always fantastic and treat all of us extremely well ... but I'll be honest, I can't pass up an opportunity to eat the oven-fired pizza here at The Rail. It's the best pizza around," stated Habs blue-liner and team captain Josh Gorges.
