Plymouth Rock Assurance Launches Charitable Campaign on Twitter for Hurricane Sandy Relief

RED BANK, N.J., Dec. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- New Jersey auto insurance group Plymouth Rock Assurance has announced that it will donate $1, up to $10,000, for every tweet that contains the hashtag #SandyForgiveness to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, a charity benefiting victims of Superstorm Sandy. Plymouth Rock's Twitter donations are part of the company's larger "Sandy Forgiveness" movement to support New Jersey residents affected by the storm.

"Sandy Forgiveness is about doing the right thing," explains Gerry Wilson , President and CEO of Plymouth Rock Management Company of New Jersey. "In addition to our monetary donations, we are waiving Sandy-related auto comprehensive claims for existing and new customers. We don't think it's right to increase rates for customers who, through no fault of their own, got caught in Sandy's path."

The #SandyForgiveness Twitter campaign launched on December 20, 2012 and will conclude on January 31, 2013. Twitter users can simply include the hashtag #SandyForgiveness in any tweet to participate.

"Social media played a crucial role in keeping folks informed before, during, and after Sandy. As a company, we leveraged Facebook and Twitter to share Sandy information with our customers, who stayed connected on mobile phones when electricity was out," added Wilson. "We figured we'd keep the trend going by aiding recovery through social media. We invite anyone, regardless of their affiliation with Plymouth Rock, to spread the word."
