Port Aransas New State Partner in World Food Championships
PORT ARANSAS, Texas, Dec. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Port Aransas & Mustang Island Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau is thrilled to announce that they have secured a partnership with the World Food Championships (WFC) to bring WFC's first state franchise to Port Aransas.
The WFC is the largest competition in "food sport" and also the start for many culinary experts as they aspire to achieve fame through nationally broadcast food TV shows and acting opportunities.
The current qualifying process for WFC involves about 600 events throughout North America. The new state franchise plan will have 50 partners in each state who will conduct statewide events/competitions that will qualify for the final world championship in Alabama. Texas is the first state in the franchise plan, and Port Aransas is the statewide partner with WFC. Anyone from Texas who wants to compete at WFC will have to attend a competition in Port Aransas, or win through a qualifying event that is part of the Port Aransas sanctioning body franchise.
In addition, the Port Aransas & Mustang Island Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau has appointed local chef Gail Huesmann, Executive Chef at Black Marlin Bar & Grill and consistent top qualifier for the World Food Championship, committee chair for the WFC planning task force.
"Over the last several years, Port A has become one of the top foodie beach destinations in Texas and the United States. We are elated to be the exclusive Texas partner for the World Food Championships venerable brand, and to also host the state qualifier event for the WFC in the years to come," said Jeff Hentz, President and CEO of the Port Aransas & Mustang Island Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau. "With our recovery from Hurricane Harvey well underway, having the opportunity to partner with a first class organization like WFC is truly a blessing for our destination and community."
"We are very excited about this new partnership and expansion of WFC with the great folks and city of Port Aransas. This will put Port A on the competition map for all things WFC related — all activities will now funnel through our new franchise partner," commented Mike McCloud, President and CEO of WFC. "While they continue to recover from Hurricane Harvey, one thing has not changed about Port A – their passion and support for building a great culinary destination. We look forward to helping them revitalize their culinary scene with Food Champ competitions and attractions of numerous types in the coming years."
