President Bill Clinton Addresses Students and Local Leaders from Universite Internationale de Casablanca on the Occasion of the Announcement of the University's New Campus New campus will have the capacity to provide a world-class higher education to 12,000 students

BALTIMORE, Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- President Clinton addressed university students, members of Morocco's government, prominent business leaders, and respected academic leaders at the Hyatt Regency in Casablanca to acknowledge and celebrate the Universite Internationale de Casablanca (UIC), a Laureate International Universities network institution, on its work in Morocco and its immediate plans to build a new campus. UIC is a pioneering private university in Morocco—and the first in Casablanca—and serves a region that has a large demand for highly skilled workers. The new state-of-the-art campus will be able to accommodate more than 12,000 students and will benefit from its connections with Laureate's other international universities.

UIC was created through a partnership between Laureate and the Societe Maroc Emirats Arabes Unis de Developpement (SOMED) and is committed to advancing Morocco's future by offering the highest quality academic degree programs.

In his address, President Clinton spoke to the students about the bright future of Morocco and about global interdependence and the uniqueness of the Laureate network. "Laureate represents what the 21st century world must look like," said President Clinton. "As part of this global university community, you have been given a chance to meet people who are different from you. When you leave here, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the welfare of your nation."

Additionally, President Clinton took questions from students in the audience. In response to a student's question about taking risk and becoming an entrepreneur after graduation, he encouraged her to continue to work hard.

"It's always a wonderful experience for our students to hear from President Clinton, and we're honored he can join us here in Morocco as we unveil plans for our new campus," said Douglas L. Becker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Laureate Education, Inc. "UIC's new campus will allow more Moroccan students the opportunity to receive a truly international education without having to leave their country."

As Honorary Chancellor, President Clinton advises Laureate on social responsibility, youth leadership and increasing access to higher education. He has spoken to thousands of students at Laureate universities all over the world.

During his administration, President Clinton, the 42nd president of the United States (1993–2001), made the largest investment in education in more than 30 years. His commitment to improving the quality of education in the United States helped to expand access to early education and made higher education more affordable and accessible. After leaving office, he started the William J. Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to empower people around the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence. CGI annual meetings have brought together more than 150 current and former heads of state; 20 Nobel Peace Prize laureates; and hundreds of leading CEOs, heads of foundations and NGOs, major philanthropists and members of the media. CGI members have made more than 2,100 commitments, valued at $69 billion, toward improving the lives of nearly 400 million people in more than 180 countries. The 2012 CGI conference was exclusively broadcast live, for the first time, to more than 40,000 Laureate students all over the world.
