"We have continually sought to deliver the best platform for our partners, athletes and fans," said Hass Aminian, general manager of action sports, World Sport Group. "This year, we have truly taken the event to a world stage as we will welcome some of the greatest athletes to one of the most spectacular city backdrops while providing global coverage to all the fans."
For the first time, the event will expand from the main venue of Jiangwan Stadium, and BMX and Skateboard Vert will be held downtown under the lights at the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower. The location at the tip of Lujiazui in the Pudong district by the side of Huangpu River, opposite The Bund, makes it a distinct landmark in the area.
New to Kia World Extreme Games will be a brand new street course for the disciplines of BMX and Skateboard. Event organizers will integrate proven formats from other street course global competitions, but Kia World Extreme Games will revolutionize the build and design of street courses using an existing structure at KIC Plaza and enhancing the course with new elements and features.
The street course will move to its new location at KIC Plaza for both BMX and Skateboard. The Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) is located in Wujiaochang Sub-centre in the Yangpu District which is home to 10 neighboring major universities and colleges. This city-core development aims to create an environment that fosters technological innovation and entrepreneurship similar to that of Silicon Valley in the United States.
