Aging Baby Boomers: A Potentially Catastrophic Challenge to Our Nation's Healthcare System
Jay Baker
Senior Vice President, Product Management
Advantmed, LLC
Baker can address the current and potentially catastrophic challenge our nation's healthcare system is facing: aging baby boomers are creating a significant shift from enrollment in private health insurance to Medicare and driving an unsustainably high rate of healthcare spending and. He can also discuss how Medicare Advantage Plans can gain insight into effective risk, quality, and care strategies and the economic effect.
Says Baker: "Aging baby boomers have created a significant shift from enrollment in private health insurance to Medicare and are driving an unsustainably high rate of healthcare spending. If further cuts to Medicare entitlements occur in 2018, then deductibles and cost-sharing for seniors in original Medicare will likely increase. These circumstances will make MA plans that much more attractive for the nation's aging population and should prompt MA plans to not only look at the full spectrum of the patient, but to also apply an end-to-end solution."

Saving a Source of Ancient Manuscripts
David Sheppe
Program Leader
American Friends for the Preservation of Saint Germain des Prés
"Serving as the gathering place for hundreds of monks, Saint Germain des Prés was an epicenter for the production of hand-copied manuscripts. During the 17th century alone, over 700 literary works were composed. The monks and scholars of the church were committed to housing important manuscripts, both sacred and secular, from France and other areas around Europe. The collection grew steadily over time and, today, numbers around 7,000 unique works (conserved at the Bibliothèque Nationale)."
Sheppe has enjoyed a long career in international banking and now works as a financial and risk management consultant. It was while living in Paris in the 1980s that he first took an interest in the church of Saint Germain des Prés, and he has been a frequent visitor ever since. From 2013 to 2016, he was once again a Paris resident, and it was then that he became acquainted with the work of the "Fonds de Dotation," the Paris-based fundraising arm for renovating the church. Following his return to the US in 2016, Sheppe did volunteer work for the U.S.-based American Friends for the Preservation of Saint Germain des Prés, before joining its Board in 2017. He is now leading the charge on the current Adopt A Saint Germain Star Campaign in the United States. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Cornell University. He resides in southwest Connecticut.
