EXPERT ALERTS:
How Childhood Fairy Tales Permeate the Conscious of Adulthood
Dr. Wendy J. James
Psychologist & Owner of Life Consultants
"As women, we read the tales of how the princess kisses the frog and it turns into a prince. Finally, in dating we should be willing to kiss a lot of frogs. My advice is to continue to go out and kiss the frogs, and give men a chance to be your prince. If we are fortunate, we will meet ours. It is necessary that after we find our prince, we need to make sure the relationship works. Your prince is not perfect, yet he is perfect for you and you are perfect for him."
Dr. James is available for interviews in studio, Skype and by phone. She is also author of the new book "The Princess Chronicles -- A Bedside Companion." (November 2013). She was recently interviewed on HLN to discuss NFL player Aaron Hernandez's murder case.

Lime-Free Tequila Cocktails to Make During Lime Shortage
Raul Valdez
Tequila Ambassador
El Mayor Tequila
"You may have heard about the lime shortage going on in the U.S. due to crop issues in Mexico, where 95 percent of the limes come from. What does this mean for summer cocktails and margaritas? No limes, no problem. Top tip: start with high quality tequila."
Valdez, tequila ambassador for El Mayor Tequila, can share plenty of other fantastic cocktails using tequila that don't require pricey limes. He is also available for interviews (he is bilingual in English and Spanish) if you'd like to discuss tequila. He travels the country speaking about tequila – making it and drinking it – and has some great insight.

Preventing the Spread of MERS and Other Deadly Superbugs
Dr. Mark Stibich
Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer
Xenex
"As superbugs become increasingly drug resistant, it's imperative for healthcare facilities to prevent the infection from occurring in the first place, thereby greatly reducing the use of antibiotics. Eliminating microorganisms like MERS, C.diff and MRSA from the environment before they harm patients is what can and should be done -- right now. Little has been reported on new technologies that destroy the MERS virus (and hundreds of other superbugs). Better drugs is not the answer -- getting the superbugs out of the patient environment is what can and should be done right now. This is already happening – and hospitals across the U.S. are reporting fewer infections after using UV room disinfection robots to quickly destroy the deadly pathogens lurking in healthcare facilities."
Epidemiologist and Xenex co-founder Dr. Stibich is available for media interviews to discuss MERS, how to prevent the spread of MERS and other viruses, how UV room disinfection works, what patients can do to protect themselves and other issues related to infectious diseases and hospital acquired infections. He holds a doctoral degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, a master's in health science, also from Johns Hopkins, and a bachelor's degree from Yale University. As chief scientific officer of Xenex, he oversees scientific research, new technology and product development, facility assessments and protocol design. He meets frequently with infection prevention representatives at healthcare facilities, helping them understand and solve their infection control challenges.

Tips on Healthy Aging for Older Adults and Retirees
Peggy Buchanan
Coordinator of Vitality and Wellness Programming
Front Porch
"Today's adults are living longer, healthier lives due in part to better fitness and nutrition programs. With the number of Americans 65+ expected to reach 20 percent of the U.S. population by 2050, exercise and diet is more important than ever. People don't want to keep working by following someone else's schedule. They want to be able to pick when and where they want to work. The whole concept of retirement is getting a makeover."
Buchanan is the coordinator of vitality/wellness programming for Front Porch and serves as the director of fitness, aquatics and physical therapy at Front Porch's Vista del Monte retirement community in Santa Barbara, Calif. She has more than 30 years of experience in the health and fitness industry as an author, instructor/trainer and program developer. Her book "Movin 'n Groovin'" was awarded Amazon.com's "Best Children's Fitness Book" in 1998. She earned her master's degree from California State University, Northridge in exercise physiology and has received numerous industry certifications and awards, including two honors from the world's largest association for health and fitness professionals (IDEA). She is available to discuss tips for healthy aging in honor of National Senior Citizen Month and Senior Health and Fitness Day.

Disability Insurance Awareness Month: Are You Covered?
Glenn R. Kantor, Esq.
Founding Partner
Kantor & Kantor, LLP
"Long-Term Disability insurance has been said to be one of the most overlooked types of insurance, despite its effectiveness in protecting insureds from unexpected illness or accidents. It's not easy for most of us to think about the possibility of a serious illness or tragic injury – in fact, most of us would like to assume that we are invincible to these types of worries, especially those of younger age. The unfortunate truth, however, is that disability happens more than we imagine and can have devastating physical, emotional, and financial consequences. During Disability Insurance Awareness Month, we urge you to think about your long-term disability insurance coverage options (before you actually need it)."
Kantor, a long-term disability insurance expert, is the founding partner of Kantor & Kantor in Northridge, Calif. He oversees one of the largest ERISA law firms in the country. The firm focuses primarily on helping employees obtain wrongfully denied insurance benefits for disability, health, long-term care and life insurance policies under the Employees Retirement Income Security Act, but also works with people denied benefits under individual policies. For more than 20 years, he has represented people with disabilities such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, Crohn's Disease, Fibromyalgia, Epstein Bar, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's, cancer, spine and back injuries, cardiac disease, depression, drug and alcohol addiction and a host of other conditions against insurance companies who have wrongfully denied health, disability or long-term care benefits.

Startling Hearing-Loss Stats for People of All Ages
Dave Fabry, Ph.D.
Vice President of Audiology & Professional Relations
Starkey Hearing Technologies
"About 48 million adults in the United States have some degree of hearing loss and at least 1.4 million children (18 or younger) have hearing problems. Research estimates that the total number of people suffering from hearing loss of more than 25 dB will exceed 700 million worldwide by 2015. Teenagers run the risk of serious long-term hearing problems caused by excessively loud music or other loud noises. But parents are not aware of the risks and seldom talk to their kids about it, according to an American study. At age 65, one out of three people has a hearing loss and for the next 15 years, boomers will be turning 65 at a rate of about 8,000 a day or 1.5 million per year. A study 'The Impact of Untreated Hearing Loss on Household Income' revealed that untreated hearing loss results in a loss of income per household of up to $12,000 per year, depending on degree of hearing loss. For the group with the most severe hearing losses (10 percent of the total), the income differential between the aided and unaided groups is $31,000 a year. For the 24 million Americans with untreated hearing loss, this equates to $122 billion in lost income, due to underperformance on the job."
Dr. Fabry is available to discuss the signs of hearing loss, prevention and new technology, including the new made for iPhone hearing aid. Starkey Hearing Technologies has collaborated with Apple on a made for iPhone hearing aid. Halo is a high-tech hearing aid compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod. FaceTime, phone calls, music, videos and more stream directly into hearing aids with pristine sound quality – no background buzzing and whistling. Dr. Fabry is available to speak to the features and benefits and also available to demo the product. His prior positions include research audiologist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, chief of audiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. and chief of audiology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He has published more than 50 articles in peer reviewed journals and he is past president of the American Academy of Audiology, from which he received the Distinguished Service Award in 2009.

Recommended Drugstore Products for Skin and Body Issues That Steal Confidence
David E. Bank, M.D., FAAD
Dermatologist, Founder and Director
The Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery
Many women and men suffer from confidence-robbing body/skin issues such as excessive underarm perspiration, psoriasis, dandruff, and red bumps. With warmer, skin-bearing months upon us common skin issues such as these can be even more emotionally disruptive, leaving many embarrassed and uncomfortable in social situations. Says Dr. Bank: "There is definitely a misconception that drugstore products can't get the job done, but that couldn't be further from the truth. If at all possible, recommending an over-the-counter product is usually my first form of treatment and if we don't see results I'll suggest another treatment option."
Dr. Bank, a renowned dermatologist and founder/director of The Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, is available to discuss excessive sweating and other body/skin issues and share his top picks of affordable over-the-counter products and what ingredients to look for that deliver results so no one is left hiding behind layers of clothing. The key is knowing what active ingredients to look for in drugstore products.

Comedian Takes Patent Troll Lawsuit Standing Up
William Munck
Intellectual Property Attorney
Munck Wilson Mandala in Dallas
"Popular comedian and top-rated iTunes podcaster Adam Carolla is going on the offensive to defend himself in a suit filed against him in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas by so-called patent troll Personal Audio Inc. The company claims Carolla is infringing its patent for podcasting technology. But Carolla says he will not settle, and he's calling on crowd funding to raise money for his defense. His argument is that Personal Audio is not a legitimate patent owner enforcing its 'technology ownership rights' but rather an entity formed for no redeeming industry purpose with no intention to ever manufacture or market the patented invention. The argument strikes a nerve because what he argues Personal Audio is doing feels un-American. The U.S. patent system is broken. The Patent and Trademark Office issues too many fundamentally flawed patents that years later place tremendous financial burdens on U.S. businesses defending against cost-of-defense patent trolls."

Bishop's Divorce May Be Same-Sex Marriage Inroad
Amber Liddell Alwais
Divorce Attorney
McCurley Orsinger McCurley Nelson & Downing L.L.P. in San Antonio, TX
"For proponents of gay marriage, the impending divorce of V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay Episcopalian bishop, could be viewed as another advance in the fight to legalize same-sex unions. Robinson, who became the Episcopal Church's first openly gay bishop in 2003, recently announced that he and his partner of 25 years are divorcing. It's sad to see the demise of any relationship, but their split shows that all couples face the same kinds of problems. In a way, the fact that one of the most high-profile advocates for marriage equality is now dealing with the other end of the spectrum is just another way to show that we are all the same. Sometimes relationships work and sometimes they don't. Granted, gay divorce is still a legal gray area, but that too should normalize over the coming years."
