EXPERT ALERTS:
The U.S. Underestimated the Capacity of ISIS
Ricardo Rene Laremont
Professor of Political Science and Sociology
Binghamton University
With Obama's legacy at stake in the campaign against ISIS, President Barack Obama admitted in a recent interview on "60 Minutes" that America underestimated the threat posed by ISIS. Says Laremont: "It's important to recognize that the president has an orientation in terms of what kind of legacy he wants to leave, and that legacy was one of exiting from Iraq and exiting from Afghanistan. Returning to the region really wasn't something that was part of his endgame. Laremont thinks that Obama has turned because he's again thinking of his legacy, but that he will only go as far as to deploy air assets and use special forces in the region for the foreseeable future. "In the optimal world, he wouldn't have to go there at all. In a suboptimal world, he has to return because if something were to happen between now and January 2016, Americans would ask, 'Well, why didn't you do anything?' So he's found a middle place between total disengagement -- or trying to attempt to disengage -- and Bush's full engagement."
Laremont, professor of political science and sociology at Binghamton University and nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, believes the U.S. underestimated the capacity of ISIS, and Obama's legacy played a factor.

Proper Communication is Key During Guardianship Cases
Ronald Fatoullah
Founder, Managing Attorney
Ronald Fatoullah & Associates
"It's crucial that out-of-state courts communicate and cooperate with each other regarding guardianship cases. Such communication and cooperation will be less stressful and less time-consuming for all parties involved."
Fatoullah is available to discuss elder law, Medicaid law, estate planning, special needs planning, retirement planning, probate, guardianships, wills and trusts. He is a certified New York elder law attorney with more than 30 years of experience. He has a ten-year inclusion as one of New York's "Best Lawyers" in the fields of trusts and estates, and he is recognized by the New York Bar Association for his "Advocacy, Drafting and Persistence" in creating the Legislative Initiative for the New York State Uniform Adult Guardianship Act.

'LinkedIn Defense' Not a Slam Dunk
Joe Ahmad
Executive Employment Attorney
Ahmad, Zavitsanos, Anaipakos, Alavi & Mensing P.C., or AZA, in Houston
"Executives who connect with customers and clients through LinkedIn (and other social media) probably don't view those contacts as being among their employers' trade secrets. But that may not necessarily be a safe assumption. The public nature of LinkedIn contacts is often used as a defense in trade secret cases. But a California federal judge's recent refusal to grant an executive's motion for summary judgment based on a 'LinkedIn defense' shows that there appears to be room for debate on the issue. I would argue – and have argued – that it should be clear that if it's published on LinkedIn, it's not confidential. However, as this judge in California has shown, it may not be a slam-dunk defense. While I think most courts would probably go the other way, it's safe to say that LinkedIn information isn't guaranteed to be considered public information."

Juvenile Dependency Law
Lauren K. Johnson
Criminal Defense Attorney
The Law Office of Lauren K. Johnson
"I do not advise my clients to spank their children as discipline. Similarly, I do not advise my clients to drink and drive even if they may legally drive with a blood alcohol concentration below .08 percent and if they believe they are not under the influence. The line is too fine and the risks outweigh the perceived benefits. I do not want them to be exposed to criminal or civil liability."
Johnson is an experienced criminal trial attorney and can speak on virtually any crime in the topic. She specializes in juvenile dependency (child abuse/neglect) law in California and recently wrote for the Daily Journal regarding the Adrian Peterson case. She has made appearances on HuffPost Live and written articles for the Daily Journal and the California Appellate Defense Counsel.
