EXPERT ALERTS:
How Consumers Can Protect Themselves Online
Michael Breummer
VP of Consumer Protection
Experian
With October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month, Breummer can comment on the current state of cybersecurity, tips for consumers on how to better protect themselves, as well as how companies can better prepare for security threats and incidents: "Technology has certainly enhanced our lives, connecting us with people and ideas from all around the world. But with this connectivity inevitably comes risk, and most consumers are indeed concerned about their safety online. In fact, according to Experian's 2015 cybersecurity survey, 91 percent agree consumers need more education on how to secure their personal information online. Simple steps such as confirming your Wi-Fi is secure or regularly updating your passwords can certainly go a long way. Education is key when it comes to protecting yourself online, and accessing resources like the Experian education blog is a good start to better protecting yourself."
With more than 25 years of experience in the identity theft and fraud resolution space, Breummer heads Experian's Data Breach Resolution group. He is also a respected speaker within the industry and regular source and byline contributor to both consumer and industry-specific media. He is based in Austin.

Millennials Haven't Left Their Parents' Nests, But Are Still Building Their Own Financial Futures
John Sweeney
EVP, Retirement and Investing Strategies
Fidelity Investments
"It's encouraging to see that Millennials are exhibiting many of the traits crucial to building a financially secure future. They're putting money aside for retirement, building emergency funds and using technology to stay on track. However, there are other factors that go into financial independence that they may not be taking into account, like rent, mortgage payments and cellphone bills."
Sweeney can speak to Fidelity's Millennial Money study (to be released Oct. 13), which reveals Millennials' lingering financial dependency on their parents, and how their attitudes and experiences impact their saving, spending and investing behaviors.

Succession and Exit Planning Strategies for Business Owners to Maximize Wealth
Francis Brown
Wealth Specialist
Key Private Bank
"Whether navigating family dynamics, finding it difficult to let go or making unrealistic assumptions about a company's valuation, business is often very personal, For business owners, the most common wealth management pitfalls result from emotional ties to their company. That's why it's extremely important for business owners to be candid with their financial advisors early on about all aspects of their lives."
Drawing from Key Private Bank's Business Owners Advisor Poll (released Sept. 28) -- which found that nearly four in 10 wealth advisors say very few or none of their business owner clients have thought through the wealth implications of their business succession strategies -- Brown can shed light on succession and exit planning strategies business owners can employ to overcome inertia at every stage of their business' lifecycle to maximize wealth.

Entrepreneurial Recipe for Success as a Chef
John Ettlie
Professor, Benjamin Forman Chair for Research, Saunders College of Business
Rochester Institute of Technology
"The extra ingredient to a chef's success as an entrepreneur are parents and mentors. If you don't have innovative parents, academic/peer role models, or mentors, your chances of becoming successful are really low."
Ettlie's new social learning study, "Observe, Innovate, Succeed: A Learning Perspective on Innovation and Performance of Entrepreneurial Chefs," was published in the Journal of Business Research. His team sampled 55 restaurant chefs using two Gourmet Magazine rankings of the top 50 U.S. restaurants. Ettlie wanted to see who bubbled to the top in this highly competitive area of haute cuisine, and discovered the entrepreneurial recipe for success. The study shows success as a master chef of haute cuisine depends less on going to culinary school than having an innovative support team along the way.
