PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Providence Health Assurance is pleased to announce that Providence Medicare Advantage Plans have received the highest overall rating – 5 stars – from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or CMS, for 2018. It means that Providence Medicare Advantage Plans are in the top four percent in the nation for services and quality for members.
"Reaching this premier level of recognition is evidence of the outstanding quality, patient-centered care and services our member receive," said Robert Gluckman, M.D., chief medical officer, Providence Health Assurance. "To earn overall 5 stars acknowledges the dedication of teams across Providence, including our medical group, affiliated providers and hospitals to improving the health of the communities we serve."
The 5-star rating can help guide consumers in making choices about their Medicare coverage for the coming year. Through the Medicare Star Quality Rating System, CMS uses information from member satisfaction surveys, plans and health care providers to give overall performance star ratings to plans. A plan can get a rating between one and five stars. An overall 5-star rating is considered excellent. The ratings are based on 44 care and service quality measures across five categories that include staying healthy, managing chronic conditions, member satisfaction, customer service, and prescription drugs.
"Improving the health of the communities we serve is at the heart of everything we are working towards," said Rhonda Medows, M.D., executive vice president and chief population health officer, Providence St. Joseph Health. "As an integrated delivery system committed to ensuring high quality, affordable access to care, a 5 star rating validates our innovative care models and creates the best possible experience for our communities.
Medicare star ratings are calculated each year and may change from one year to the next.
