Publishers Weekly Again Lists BenBella Books as One of the Fastest Growing Indie Publishers
DALLAS, April 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Last month, Publishers Weekly included Dallas-based BenBella Books in its highly esteemed "Fast-Growing Independent Publishers" list for 2015. BenBella Books is noted for its tremendous sales growth of 54 percent from 2012 to 2014.
This isn't the first time BenBella Books has been recognized for its sustained growth. Publishers Weekly also named BenBella to the same list back in 2013 for what, at the time, was its biggest year yet. While highly innovative in some ways, BenBella is at its core a traditional publisher that searches for great titles and pays advances ranging from $5,000 to $100,000.
Publisher Glenn Yeffeth attributes BenBella's continued success to three basic principles – being highly selective on the books it publishes, having a deep commitment to author partnership, and creatively and aggressively marketing its books. These principles, Yeffeth reports, have yielded results: "We've experienced rapid growth, strong profitability and many successful titles, including 14 New York Times bestselling titles and multiple category bestsellers."
BenBella's full line-up for 2015 should also prove prosperous with titles such as Broadcasting Happiness: The Science of Igniting and Sustaining Positive Change (August) by Michelle Gielan, former CBS news anchor and the founder of the Institute for Applied Positive Research; Media Circus: A Look at Private Tragedy in the Public Eye (September) featuring interviews with the relatives of Sharon Tate, Matthew Shepard, Eric Garner, and more; and Plant-Powered Families: Over 100 Kid-Tested, Whole-Foods Vegan Recipes (May) by Dreena Burton, a leading vegan author in the plant-based community.
BenBella now has two specialty areas, Smart Pop Books and BenBella Vegan. Smart Pop features smart commentary on various pop culture topics. BenBella Vegan was established this January and is already making a significant name for itself in the plant-based community. BenBella Vegan's titles include The China Study (more than one million copies sold to date), Whole (a New York Times bestseller), and the Happy Herbivore cookbook series (more than 250,000 total copies sold to date).
