Quiznos and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society -- Partners in the Fight to End Cancer Quiznos Launches National Campaign During Blood Cancer Awareness Month
DENVER, Sept. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Quiznos announced that participating restaurants across the U.S. and Canada are partnering with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in an effort to end cancer forever. This September and October, customers are encouraged to donate $1 or $5 with their order to help fund cancer research and save lives in the communities where Quiznos does business.
"The research funded by LLS is incredibly productive - almost half of the new cancer drugs approved in the US since 2000 were approved to treat one or more blood cancers," said Stuart Mathis, CEO of Quiznos. "We are honored to partner with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, an organization that has helped advance these modern anti-cancer drugs. Every donation we can raise gets us one step closer to a goal of ending cancer forever."
The mission of LLS is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. LLS is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to finding cures for blood cancers. When LLS was founded in 1949, a blood cancer diagnosis was almost always fatal. Thanks in part to innovative research funded by LLS, survival rates have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled for blood cancer patients. To date, LLS has invested more than $875 million in research to advance therapies and save lives. Some of the therapies first approved for blood cancer patients are now helping patients with other types of cancers and other serious diseases.
"Blood cancer research has broad, life-saving impact," said Amy Franze, Senior Vice President of Field Advancement, LLS "Many of the new drugs developed by LLS have already been approved to help beyond the blood cancer patients for whom they were first developed, including patients with solid tumors and other serious diseases. Thanks to funding provided by brands like Quiznos, patients are living longer, fuller lives. We're excited to have the opportunity to partner with Quiznos on this exciting initiative."
Quiznos partnership with LLS is just one of the ways that local Quiznos franchisees are able to support the communities where they operate. Though the partnership with LLS, Quiznos hopes to raise $100,000 for the organization.
