R. Riveter launches Kickstarter campaign with goal of empowering military spouses
American Handmade Challenge inspires support for American craftsmanship and job creation
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C., Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- R. Riveter today announced the launch of its Kickstarter campaign, aimed at raising $35,000 in 35 days to support the employment and empowerment of military spouses. The company manufactures bags, accessories and small leather goods using up-cycled military materials, all of which are handmade by military spouses across the U.S. and around the world.
Founded by military wives Cameron Cruse and Lisa Bradley in 2011, R. Riveter started as a means of helping other spouses maintain employment and income through the constant relocation requisite of military life.
"On average, military families are relocated every 2.9 years, making it very difficult for the spouse of the serviceman--or woman--to pursue a single career or gain work experience," said Cruse. "Our idea was to provide flexible employment and stable income for these hardworking people, while honoring the tradition of American craftsmanship by creating beautiful, high quality handmade goods from up-cycled materials."
Cruse and Bradley were inspired by the "We Can Do It" attitude of Rosie the Riveter, an icon of World War II who empowered Americans to support our troops through tangible means, including manufacturing. R.Riveter's products echo classic American style by incorporating materials such as canvas from tents, called shelter halves, and wool from military academy blankets in to its full line of accessories, from handbags and totes, to dopp kits and dog collars.
To support the American Handmade Challenge, visit R. Riveter's Kickstarter page to donate as little as one dollar, and share how you'll support military spouses via social media. To see how others are accepting the challenge, follow R.Riveter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
