The Annual Race To Erase MS Gala featured performances by Chicago, David Foster, Siedah Garrett, Lance Bass and more, on Friday, May 5th at the Beverly Hilton.
"The Race To Erase MS was such an upbeat evening as we received FDA approval on an MS drug that we funded the pilot studies for which is going to change the whole landscape for everybody with Multiple Sclerosis. It was wonderful to honor Jamie Lynn Sigler this year, and to have the very talented singer songwriter Siedah Garrett debut her extraordinary song Carry On which will benefit MS, accompanied on stage by the incredible David Foster. Chicago played a full concert and everybody was up on their feet. It was so amazing how happy everybody was to truly celebrate the purpose, which is why we created The Race To Erase MS." – Nancy Davis (www.erasems.org)
The foundation's core focus is funding Young Investigator Awards ($75,000 each) and Pilot Grants ($75,000 each). Race to Erase MS is the only foundation that actively supports Young Investigators who would otherwise be lost to private practice. RACE TO ERASE MS HAS CONTRIBUTED TO HELP BRING FDA APPROVED MEDICATIONS TO THE MARKET. There are now 15 drugs available.
The most recent medication to be approved by the FDA is Genentech's OCREVUS™, the first treatment option for relapsing and primary progressive forms of MS. OCREVUS™ is the first drug for MS that suppresses the B-Cells, which are thought to activate the T-Cells, whereas other drugs on the market try to reverse the T-Cell reaction. Thus, this new medication essentially stops the disease before it starts or kicks off an attack.
"The scientific discoveries that led to the development of OCREVUS™ were carried out over a period of many years at UCSF in work supported by the Race to Erase MS and the Center Without Walls program founded by Nancy Davis. B-cell therapy has emerged as a major breakthrough for people with MS, and the first therapy of this type for MS, was approved by the FDA on March 28, 2017." – Dr. Stephen Hauser
