Ralph H. Smith II Joins Jones Walker

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Jones Walker continues to expand in Alabama, announcing today that Ralph H. Smith II , President of The Ralph Smith Group (www.ralphsmithgroup.com), a global consulting company for business and higher education, has been named Special Counsel in the firm's Birmingham, Ala. office. Mr. Smith spent 25 years in private law practice in Washington, D.C. and Birmingham before serving as General Counsel of the University of Alabama System and a member of the University System Chancellor's Senior Policy Staff.  A former Rhodes Scholar, Mr. Smith received his undergraduate degree from Washington & Lee University, summa cum laude, and his juris doctor degree from the Yale Law School. He attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, where he received an M.A.

Mr. Smith has been an officer, director or trustee of numerous educational, charitable and civic organizations, including the Association of American Rhodes Scholars, of which he is a member of the Executive Committee. He is also responsible for the Rhodes Scholarship selection process in Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee.
