Randy Gaboriault of Christiana Care Health System Named Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader
WILMINGTON, Del., Jan. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Randy Gaboriault, vice president and chief information officer at Christiana Care Health System, has been recognized by IDG's Computerworld Magazine as a 2013 Premier 100 IT Leader honoree.
"Under Randy's leadership, Christiana Care has been able to unlock the strategic value of IT in ways that set new standards for how we practice medicine, adding greater value for our physicians and patients," said Robert J. Laskowski, M.D., MBA, Christiana Care's president and chief executive officer. "This award is an honor for our entire clinical and information technology team who create innovative systems of care that transform the clinician experience and allow us to better serve our neighbors as expert, caring partners in their health."
Each year, the publication spotlights leaders that have demonstrated exceptional technology leadership in their organizations, delivered innovative approaches to business challenges and effective management of IT strategies.
"The Premier 100 IT Leader award endorses Christiana Care's commitment to designing the future of health care by implementing transformative information technology solutions," Gaboriault said. "Clinical health care services are among the most complex offerings in the world to design and deliver and I am fortunate to work with a talented and dynamic team that is energized by these challenges."
Since Gaboriault joined Christiana Care in 2010, the health system has advanced its electronic medical record to be among the top 1 percent of all U.S. hospitals. His organization has created several innovations to improve patient care, patient safety and clinical efficiency.
Notable achievements are a break-through communication management and workflow solution developed for one of the busiest emergency departments in the nation with more than 172,000 visits last year. Another unique solution, Insight, is a handheld device that enables patients to self-evaluate their symptoms and integrates with the patient medical record.
Computerworld magazine named Insight an Honors Program Laureate award winner in 2012 and, in a separate honor, awarded it Top Five recognition in the health category.
"Every day, these exemplary business leaders make strategic technology decisions that track to their organizations' top priorities," added Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "These men and women keep a keen eye on the changing landscape of political, economic, regulatory and technology trends that are driving significant shifts in IT."
Other major technology publications have also recognized Christiana Care's recent achievements, including CIO magazine and InformationWeek 500 magazine. Additionally, Christiana Care received a prestigious $10 million grant from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation in 2012.
Appointed by Delaware Gov. Jack Markell, Gaboriault also serves as board chair for the Delaware Health Information Network, the nation's first and leading health information exchange.
