LOS ANGELES, June 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the Lagree Fitness Method® has been granted a U.S. Patent for its High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) exercise method, performed on Sebastien Lagree's newest invention, multi-axis exercise machine, the Supra™.
Only six months after the launch of the Supra™, The Lagree Fitness Method®, used in more than 300 studios worldwide, is now one of the few fitness methods to obtain a U.S. patent.
A successor to the Megaformer®, the Supra™ is the only fitness equipment in the world to incline and tilt to the right and left, allowing users to work in every plane of motion (sagittal, frontal, and transverse) simultaneously, without the need to twist the spine. "Doing one movement on the Supra™ is like doing several on any other fitness equipment," says Sebastien Lagree, creator and founder of the Lagree Fitness Method® and inventor of the Supra™ and Megaformer® machines.
A historically difficult industry for acquiring patents, there are 100 individual patent claims attached to the Lagree Fitness Method® patent alone. "In the fitness industry, it is challenging to get a 'method patent' because you have to prove that you have created a truly new and innovative way to move or perform an exercise," says Sebastien, "Let's face it, most workout types available are using the same exercises; what is really the difference between a Bootcamp and a CrossFit? Both use weights and the same exercises and equipment. Same for all of the trendy cycling studios popping up. It's a bike and maybe some arm weights."
U.S. Patent No. 9,370,679 is the first "method patent" for Lagree Fitness® and comes on the heels of four patents issued in 2015 for Lagree's Megaformer® machine. In 2015, the Megaformer® was the only fitness device patented to provide a full-body workout among approximately four dozen total exercise equipment and method patents granted that year.
"The main purpose of this patent is to show consumers that Lagree Fitness Method® is unique with unparalleled benefits. There are so many workouts out there which are all claiming to deliver the same benefits -- but are not," says Sebastien. "Hopefully, this patent will help to educate and lead consumers closer to their fitness goals."
New exercises were invented for the Supra™, in which users are, for the first time, required to use major muscles to overcome resistance, while at the same time, use minor muscles to maintain balance. This more than doubles the effort expended during a typical hour-long workout, but in only 25 minutes.
About Lagree Fitness Method®:
Established in 2006 and used in more than 300 studios worldwide, The Lagree Fitness Method® is the most effective full-body High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout that can be done in 25 minutes. The orchestrated sequence of movements (ie: planks, lunges, pushups, abdominal crunches and squats) are each performed for a minimum of 60 seconds on a variable spring resistance, multi-axis machine to stimulate both fast- and slow-twitch muscle fibers, which also reduces the stress on the joints and connective tissues. This workout integrates the key elements of resistance and counter-resistance in a sequence that allows for periods of zero gravity at peak muscle contraction. The workout strengthens the body, tones and elongates the muscles, improves endurance, jump-starts the metabolism, burns fat, increases flexibility and postural alignment, and restores the body's natural balance.
The Lagree Fitness® Studio (est. January 2016) is headquartered in Los Angeles, where Sebastien Lagree teaches, and is currently the only studio in the world to feature the Supra™. The Lagree Fitness Method® is only available through its network of official licensees. To find a Lagree location, visit the online locator or download The Lagree Studio app available on the App Store.
