LOS ANGELES, June 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Razor® announced today it is one of the first brands in the United States to be issued a new UL 2272 safety certification for its Hovertrax™ the only "hover board" product in the U.S. marketplace with a license for the original patent of this state-of-the-art technology.
After completing a construction evaluation, safety testing, and complying with UL 2272's marking, labeling, and user instruction requirements, Razor Hovertrax met all the requirements and received the new certification, along with holographic product labels featuring the UL Enhanced Mark, on May 23.
"At Razor, we focus on providing the very best riding experience, combining cutting-edge technology and high-quality materials in all of the products we bring to market, including the revolutionary Hovertrax," said Carlton Calvin, founder and president, Razor USA LLC. "As one of the first brands in this category to receive this new UL certification, we're now excited to start shipping our certified Hovertrax product and will continue protecting our intellectual property rights as the exclusive licensee of this innovative technology."
"We're very pleased to issue one of the first UL 2272 certifications in the U.S. to Razor because it means that consumers can purchase with more peace of mind, knowing that the electrical system has been safety-certified to electrical and fire safety requirements," said Jeff Smidt, Vice President and General Manager of UL's Energy and Power Technologies division.
"Additionally, retailers can source UL certified self-balancing scooters with confidence in their safety certification, as well as build UL 2272 compliance into their procurement policies."
The Hovertrax is a two-wheeled dual platform device that uses gyro-sensor technology to sweep riders along with a shift of their feet — forward, backward, around corners or in a 360 degree spin. Dual hub motors give riders a smooth and quiet ride for 115 minutes of fun and the product includes shatter-resistant polymer frames, anti-slip foot platforms and rubber wheels with aluminum hubs. Available in red and blue.
The Hovertrax hit shelves in late November 2015 as the only licensed product in the marketplace and is backed by Razor's reputation as the world's largest manufacturer of electric ride-ons and its promise of complete customer satisfaction. While other "hover boards" or "self-balancing scooters" entered the market, Razor USA licensed the exclusive and only patent for Hovertrax from inventor Shane Chen.
On the horizon for fall are the all new Hovertrax 2.0 and Hovertrax DLX 2.0, which will retail for $459.99 and $559.99 respectively. With a revolutionary auto-balance function and quick change, swappable battery packs they will surely get the attention of fans nation-wide. The DLX versions will come with hi-end finishes and a never seen before LED light show.
