Ready for Training: SAT Presents its New Frankfurt Embraer 190 Simulator

Swiss AviationTraining (SAT) unveiled their new CAE Embraer 190 full-flight simulator to the public today. The new facility marks another milestone in SAT's evolution into an experienced provider of total "E-Jet" training solutions, and further underlines its standing and expertise as a competence centre for integrated cockpit, cabin and technical training.

SAT's new E-Jet 190 simulator is now available for use at the Lufthansa Flight Training Center in Frankfurt. The simulator, which came in almost 40 cases of components, has been assembled there after a long journey from manufacturer CAE in Montreal by sea to Antwerp and thence by road to Frankfurt on three Natco Ltd. heavy-haul trucks. The whole consignment arrived in February; and now, after extensive installation, the new simulator is "ready to train".

The new simulator was formally inaugurated in Frankfurt today in the presence of various invitees and media representatives. Laurent Privet, SAT's Head of Commerce, underlined the importance of this major investment. "This latest expansion of our training product and locations is a further consistent step in our strategy of consolidating our competence as a provider of integrated training solutions in the E-Jet field," he emphasized.

SAT already operates an E-Jet simulator in Munich. And the new Frankfurt location ideally complements these existing training operations. SAT's strong collaborations with LFT, the potential synergies in cost terms and local customer Lufthansa City Line were all key factors in SAT's choice of Frankfurt as the location for its new simulator facility.

An integrated approach

The new Frankfurt operation will put a particular emphasis on "wet training", in which the customer for initial and further pilot training makes use not only of the simulator itself but also of SAT's instructors and their extensive expertise. SAT has been one of Embraer's "Preferred Training Providers" since 2003, and has already built up wide and varied Embraer training experience.

SAT has trained over 2,500 pilots to date on Embraer aircraft types. And such training has not been limited to its Zurich, Munich and Frankfurt simulator centres, but has also been conducted on the customer's premises if desired, at such diverse locations as Australia and China. Nor is SAT's E-Jet training restricted to the cockpit: it also extends to various training courses on the types concerned for cabin and technical personnel.

State-of-the-art

SAT's new Frankfurt E-Jet 190 simulator has been supplied by CAE, a professional manufacturer with whom SAT has been collaborating closely for several years now. The simulator itself is state-of-the-art, with features that include a dual head-up guidance system and the latest CAE Tropos visual system. The projectors boast an extremely high resolution - an asset that will be greatly appreciated by the pilots who train on it. The simulator also has the newest Aircraft Avionic Software (EPIC load 25.2) installed, which replicates the very latest version of the original aircraft concerned.
