Reality Check! Our Future Depends More on Youth and Civil Society on the Frontlines of Climate Crisis than Results of Negotiations in Paris
Action Connected Announces Partnership with World Merit to Support Frontier Market Investments in Climate Change Adaptation
PARIS, Dec. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As the world awaits results from the UN-COP21 later this week, youth and civil society organizations in front line communities around the world – across developed and developing nations, North and South – have already begun taking matters into their own hands. Forced by decades of government inaction to adapt to and moderate the effects of climate change at the local level, these individuals and community-based groups have developed innovative strategies to mitigate environmental degradation and habitat loss wrought by climate change. Beneficiary voices from this global community of youth and civil society activists were featured at a Salon-style event in Paris hosted by Action Connected and its partners.
"This Salon event is just the beginning of our work to support youth and civil society on the front lines of the climate crisis," said Thierry Gillet, CEO & Co-Founder of Action Connected with Simon Reckla, "We are announcing a new partnership with World Merit to challenge private citizens and businesses to come together to jumpstart investments in expertise and financial resources needed most by beneficiaries on the front lines."
Challenge participants represent traditional development project stakeholder groups - funders, implementers, and beneficiaries - working together through actionconnected.com to deliver equitable and sustainable solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change in some of the least developed and most vulnerable communities around the world.
Added Simon Reckla, commenting on the genesis of Action Connected's partnership with World Merit, "We have a very similar philosophy about supporting young people to ensure that climate change doesn't become a barrier to realizing their full potential. Regardless of the results from the UN-COP21, we must invest in them to save ourselves."
