ATLANTA, Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Travelport, the business services provider to the global travel industry, today announces that Rearden Commerce, the next-generation ecommerce platform company, has signed an agreement for use of the company's Travelport Universal API technology. Rearden Commerce expects to deploy the Universal API to bring its three existing connections to Apollo, Galileo and Worldspan into one single connection.
"Travelport's Universal API allows us to access all three of their GDS connections through one web service," said Todd Kaiser, vice president, Product Management, Rearden Commerce. "The solution will provide us with greater operational efficiencies and the ability to redeploy valuable IT resources to other areas of the business. In the future, it will also enable access to Air Canada's full range of content including Tango fares and merchandising services."
"As we transform into more of a platform business, delivering the broadest choice of informed travel content working with travel independent software vendors (ISVs) will become increasingly important," said Chris Zando, vice president, Partnerships & Alliances, Travelport. "We are delighted Rearden Commerce recognizes the value of our Universal API – it very much underpins the next generation of our technology and allows for easy access to a world of content and functionality in a very simplistic and efficient way."
Travelport Universal API is the GDS industry's first application programming interface (API) that offers the power and capacity to aggregate travel content and related services from multiple sources through a single interface. The new technology enables developers to access extensive content in a faster and more time efficient manner by coding to one single solution instead of multiple APIs.
