Recent Seed Round Raised by Portfolium Puts EvoNexus Startups at $573 Million in Combined Funding to Date

SAN DIEGO, July 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- EvoNexus, a San Diego based startup incubator announces one of its portfolio companies, Portfolium, signs a contract with the University of California and raises a $900,000 seed round.

Portfolium is an academic portfolio platform that helps students, alumni, and their institutions visually showcase projects, skills, and experiences via cloud-based, media-rich portfolios. Portfolium is currently based in San Diego out of the EvoNexus incubator.

EvoNexus is the technology incubator of CommNexus, a leading non-profit trade organization that works to bolster Southern California high-tech industries. EvoNexus provides resources, support and connections to assist startups in achieving sustainability.

"Portfolium entered the EvoNexus incubator in June of 2013 and was part of the first EvoStart cohort, a 4 month framework to validate product-market-fit." said Michele Yoshioka, Director of Programs & Operations for CommNexus/EvoNexus. "Portfolium's progress is exactly what EvoStart aims to do. They worked hard to validate their product and market and as a result made significant progress both with technical and business development to the point they became fundable."

Portfolium announced that they have signed a contract with the University of California to utilize their platform campus-wide. Portfolium has been successfully rolled out to the graduating class of 2014 and will expand to all current students and alumni within the next year.

Additionally, Portfolium has closed a $900,000 seed round from Tech Coast Angels and other San Diego-based investors including Taner Halicioglu of Keshif Ventures, who was the first (non-founding) employee at Facebook and is currently a professor of Computer Science at UCSD.

In addition to Portfolium, a number of other startups in the EvoNexus incubator have gotten off to a great start in 2014. So far this year, 11 EvoNexus startups currently incubating, have raised a combined total of $15.2 Million in funding. These companies include Edico Genome, Educated Investor, Hush Technologies, MD Revolution, MeetSOCI, Omniome, PlayMotion, Portfolium, Rock My World, Scorestream, and Skylit Medical.

EvoNexus provides its startups with hands on mentoring and support to help position them for the best chance of success. EvoNexus currently has two locations, UTC and Downtown and will be expanding to a third location in Irvine in Q4 of 2014.
