Redesigned HomeFoodSafety.org Offers Simple Food Safety Solutions, Including Kitchen Safety Quiz, RD Recipes And New Mobile App
Redesigned site is hallmark of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and ConAgra Foods' Home Food Safety Program
CHICAGO, Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --The redesigned HomeFoodSafety.org has been launched by the Home Food Safety program – a collaboration between the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and ConAgra Foods. The redesign features improved navigation that highlights simple steps to reduce people's risk of food poisoning in the home, as well as a new RD Recipes video series.
"It's extremely important to keep food safety in mind, especially when one in six people is sickened by food poisoning every year in the U.S.," said registered dietitian and Academy Spokesperson Marisa Moore. "You can reduce your risk of food poisoning and keep your food and family safe with simple steps from the Home Food Safety program, and the newly redesigned HomeFoodSafety.org."
The site features new articles, tips and downloadable tools organized in four simple safety steps to reduce your risk of food poisoning:
- WASH : Wash hands often
- SEPARATE : Keep raw foods and ready-to-eat foods separate
- COOK : Cook to proper temperatures
- REFRIGERATE : Refrigerate promptly at 40 degrees or below.
"Safe food handling in the home is extremely important, especially for those who may be more vulnerable to food poisoning, including older adults, infants, young children and pregnant women," said Barbara J. Ivens , MS, RD, FADA, senior nutrition director at ConAgra Foods. "HomeFoodSafety.org offers Americans the tools they need to help reduce the risk of food poisoning in the home."
New Features: RD Recipes and Is My Food Safe? App
The redesigned site also features the new RD Recipes video series – tasty recipes designed with the food and nutrition expertise of a registered dietitian.
"RD Recipes provides consumers with the tools they need to safely spice up any menu, while providing the nutrition needed to fuel any family," Moore said.
The first two RD Recipes in the series include downloadable recipe cards and videos from Marisa Moore for "Kale with Toasted Walnuts" and "Chipotle Lime Shrimp Tacos with Avocado Salsa." These RD Recipes are highlighted at www.HomeFoodSafety.org/RDrecipes. New RD Recipes will be added frequently.
The site also features the Home Food Safety program's new mobile app, Is My Food Safe? for Apple and Android devices. The app can be downloaded from www.HomeFoodSafety.org/app.
